There are several versions of the periwinkle block, and this is just one of them. Adding borders definitely turns the vintage pattern into a modern one. I think it’s perfect for the coming holidays. If you are looking for a quilt project this season, this quilt is a great choice. Watch the video below for full instructions. Happy sewing!
Take a 10″ square and cut it in half diagonally from corner to corner. Repeat with all the remaining 10″ squares.
Get one of the triangles. Place the periwinkle template on top just like in the photo below then cut. Glue it to a wacky web paper using a lapel stick.
Sash it with a 1 1/2″ background strip with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Open and press it flat. Repeat on the other side.
Attach a contrasting side triangle and sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Open and press. Repeat it on the other side.
Flip it over and use paper as a template to trim. Tear off the paper.
Repeat steps 2 to 5 with the remaining triangles.
Take 4 units and arrange them just like in the photo below. Sew the pieces together to make the block.
Repeat with the remaining units to make several pieces. Sew them together in rows, then sew the rows together to make the quilt top.
