Step 1:

Add 2 tablespoons of salted butter and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet. Melt in the oven preheated to 350F. Set aside.

Step 2:

In a large bowl, add 1 1/2 cups of yellow cornmeal, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 3 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Whisk all ingredients together.

Step 3:

You can add 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, if you do only add 2/3 cup of whole buttermilk. If you are not going to add sugar, add 2 cups of whole buttermilk. Next, add 2 large eggs. Whisk until well combined. Next, add a dollop of Duke’s mayonnaise. Mix again.

While it’s baking, make the honey butter. In a small bowl, add 1 stick of softened salted butter, 1 heaping tablespoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of heavy cream. Mix until well combined.

Step 7:

Remove your cornbread from the oven once baking, and spread a tablespoon of honey butter mixture on top. Place back in the oven and brown the top by broiling for 2 to 3 minutes. Do not walk away! Keep an eye on it.
