This jelly basket quilt only requires one layer cake and one jelly roll. The best thing about this quilt project is that it has little to no fabric waste. You will use all the jelly roll strips for all the blocks. Watch the video below for the full instructions. Happy quilting!
Here’s another fun project you might want to try: How To Make A Jelly Roll Quilt
Take one layer cake and cut it directly in half. It’s 10 inches so cut it at 5 inches.
Cut four pieces of 10″ jelly roll units. There will be no waste with this quilt project since a jelly roll measures 40″ and the units you need measure 10″.
Take four jelly roll units and place them beside the long sides of the two 5″ units. Sew them in place with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press each block open. The block will measure 9″ by 10″. Stack them and cut an inch of the end to get a 9″ square.
Place the first block in a horizontal position and the next one in a vertical position. Repeat with the remaining blocks to make the first row. Sew them together.
For the next row, instead of starting in a horizontal position, start with a vertical position, then followed by a horizontal position. Continue for the rest of the row.
For the third row, repeat the first row. Try to use different blocks so the colors don’t match.
Continue doing the alternating position for the remaining rows. Add an inner border and an outer border.
