How to Wash Pillows The Right Way

Step 1:

Remove the pillowcase and check the manufacturer’s recommendations on the label. If the label is no longer readable or completely cut off, go to the manufacturer’s website.

You can either add or completely replace the filler if it has a zipper. If the pillows are filled with polyester, they can be washed at 104F. It is best to wash and dry pillows in dry weather. They will dry faster and prevent an unpleasant odor.

Step 2:

Before washing, treat the pillows with detergent. Pour 3.4 oz of hydrogen peroxide and a drop of dish soap into a spray bottle. Shake well. Spray the pillows with the solution on all sides. Leave the treated pillows for 5 minutes.

Step 3:

Place inside the washing machine. Depending on your washing machine, you can fit 1 or 2 pillows.

Step 4:

Use liquid detergent, either gel or capsule. It should also be hypoallergenic and without a strong odor. Wash the pillows on the synthetic cycle with a temperature of 104F. In this mode, there is a maximum spin of 800 rpm. Turn on extra rinse. Wait until it’s done.

Step 5:

After washing, run the washing machine on the spin cycle to remove excess moisture from the pillows.

Step 6:

Dry the pillows on a dryer outside or in a ventilated space, preferably on your balcony. If you have the same type of pillow, you can use a dryer to dry it. Fluff your pillows from time to time so they dry evenly.
