Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F, then grease a 9×13-inch baking dish, and set it aside. In a large mixing bowl, add the sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt, then whisk them to combine, break the eggs in a separate bowl, and add them to the flour mixture. Add the crushed pineapple and melted butter, then stir them until incorporated, and pour the batter into the prepared baking dish spreading it evenly.

Step 2

Place it in the preheated oven to bake for about 35 to 40 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted at the center comes out clean, then remove it from the oven, and let it cool while making the caramel sauce. Place a medium-sized saucepan on a stove over medium heat, then melt the butter, and add the sugar, evaporated milk, and egg yolk.

Step 3

Whisk them together to combine, then bring the sauce to a boil for about 6 minutes while stirring consistently, and once thickened, remove from the heat. Pour the sauce over to the cooled cake, then spread it evenly, and let it cool for at least 10 minutes or until room temperature. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
