Date cake is very easy to make. Just mix all the ingredients to make the cake batter, then transfer to a mold for baking. Once baked, poke holes over the cake and pour the homemade toffee sauce. This will let the cake absorb the glaze.

For the toffee sauce:
In a bowl, add the dates, hot water, and baking soda. Mix until well combined. Set aside.
In a different bowl, add softened butter and brown sugar. Whisk for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add 3 eggs to the butter-sugar mixture. Whisk for a minute.
Sift flour and baking powder directly into the mixture. Gently mix, then add vanilla extract, almond essence, date mixture, and chopped nuts. Mix until well combined.
Line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper, then pour the mixture.
Bake at 338F for about 30 to 35 minutes.
Make the toffee sauce. In a microwave-safe bowl, add the butter and brown sugar. Microwave for 45 seconds. Mix until well combined, then pour the heavy cream. Stir to combine.
Once the cake is done baking and still warm, poke holes then pour the toffee sauce. Leave it for 1 to 2 minutes.
Slice in squares, top with ice cream, then drizzle more sauce. Serve and enjoy!
