Jenny Doan only used three colors of fabric for this project, and it turned out to be absolutely beautiful. But imagine if you used different colors for each block. How fun would that be? You can experiment with colors however you like, and you might even make new patterns. She added sashing on all sides, but you don’t have to. You can just lay all the blocks together if you prefer.

Easy Magic Square Quilt Materials

• layer cake
• jelly roll
• rotary cutter
• scissors
• ruler

How to Make Magic Square Quilt

Step 1:

Get a piece of layer cake squares and sew jelly rolls on both sides with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Cut the excess. Next, measure the block and sew the same pattern of jelly rolls with that measurement on the top and bottom. Press it open. You need two pieces of this framed block. For the other one, make sure to switch the colors.

Step 2:

Fold one framed block in half diagonally, then iron the crease down in the middle. Place it on top of the other framed block, right sides together. Put pins on each corner to keep them in place. Sew 1/4″ on either side of the crease. Cut directly on the fold line. Remove the pins and press them open.
