Self Binding Baby Blanket Materials

  • 30″ square flanel
  • 40″ square flanel

How to Make a Self-Binding Baby Blanket

Step 1:

Fold the 30″ square flanel in half twice to find the middle on each side and put pins. Do the same for the other piece.

Step 2:

Lay the two pieces right sides together and pin the middles together, by pulling the smaller one to the bigger flanel. Mark an opening so you will be able to flip it later on. You are going to sew from the center pin down to a quarter of an inch before the end, so place a pin before sewing so you know when to stop.

Step 3:

Sew right from the center pin all the way to the other pin near the end. Make sure not to sew on the opening.

Step 4:

Take out all of the pins and then miter the corners. Fold the corners, put the two sides together, and you will have a straight fold. To find your 90-angle, put the edge of the ruler on the fold and draw the line. Sew on the line, then trim the excess. Repeat on the other corners.

Step 5:

Turn the blanket right side out from the opening. Iron it flat and top stitch on the top to hold the two flanels together.
