Dollar Tree DIY Gnomes with Flower Pot Hats

Materials:

For the Gnomes:

• acrylic paint in white, pink, and blue
• 1 – 3″ terra cotta pot
• 1 – 2 1/4″ terra cotta pot
• 2 children’s ankle socks
• 2 – wood rounds (should fit inside each pot)
• 1 – 1″ woodball
• 1 – 3/4″ woodball
• a small amount of poly-fill
• a small amount of Mongolian fur (or other faux furs)
• white embroidery thread

For the Flowers:

• patterned cotton fabric
• a small amount of dark craft felt
• 4 – faux floral lambs ear leaves

Tools:

• paintbrushes
• scissors
• hot glue gun
• pinking shears
• 3″ circle template
• pencil
• iron
• needle and thread

Directions:

Step 1

To start, paint the terra cotta pots with paints mixed with white to make them a bit pastel, then add a second coat. Set them aside. Next, make the gnomes. Add the wood rounds inside each sock, then fill them with poly beads. Hide the beads by adding the poly-fill all the way around the beads inside the sock. Close it and secure it by tying white embroidery thread. Next, identify the height and width of the fur fabric you need for the gnomes, then cut it. Then, attach the fur pieces to each gnome with hot glue. Next, split the fur, add a generous portion of hot glue, then press the woodball to make the nose. After this, position the pot first, then attach it to the top of the gnome with hot glue. Repeat these steps with the other gnomes.

Step 2

For the flowers, create 3″ fabric circles, then cut the edges with pinking shears. After this, fold each circle in half and press them. Once done, fold them again in half, then press. Now, with needle and thread, go in from the back first at the top where you cut the circle, then use a running stitch, making sure you go in from the front on the last round. Add all six petals, repeating the process for each piece. Once you have your last petal on, grab the end of the thread, and tie the two ends together tightly. For the backing, add a piece of small felt, then for the front, attach whatever you prefer; buttons, brooches, etc. Now, glue this just off center, either right or left of the gnome.
