How to Make a Quartered Stripes Quilt

These are made from quarter square triangles and arranged into blocks to form squares and crosses. The only thing that you need to pay attention to when making this block is how you cut the fabric. Materials:

• 1 and 1/4 yards of striped fabric
• 3/4 yards of border fabric (includes binding)
• 1 and 1/2 yards of backing fabric

Instructions:

Step 1:

Get the striped fabric and open it up. Fold it the opposite way so the selvages are on the side. You want the stripes to line up exactly, then fold it again one more time. Make sure that everything is lined up. Trim off the selvages and cut them into 10-inch segments. Do it for the whole length of the fabric.

Step 2:

Get one and turn it around. Trim off the fold and cut into a 10-inch square. Cut it in half diagonally in both directions. Put a pin on each stack.

Step 3:

Take one of the stacks. Arrange the triangles into a square. Lay them right sides together and sew them together with a quarter of an inch. Once done, press it open. Repeat with the remaining stacks. You will have 2 blocks that have a square pattern and the other 2 blocks with a cross. For this quilt, there will be 4 rows with 4 blocks on each row. You will need 16 blocks for this. Alternate the cross and square patterns when arranging them.
