Flatbreads are probably one of my favorite types of bread because there are a lot of possibilities that you can make with them, you can pretty much do anything or use any spread or ingredients that you can think of, and it will still taste absolutely delicious. I have tried a bunch of topping with this but the best way to eat them is when they are served plain! Ingredients:

Dough

  • 500 grams or 4 cups of bread flour or all-purpose flour
  • 160ml or 2/3 cup of warm milk
  • 160ml or 2/3 cup of warm water
  • 10 grams or 1½ tbsp of instant dry yeast
  • 10 grams or 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 8 grams or ¾ tbsp of salt
  • 18 grams or 3 tbsp of olive oil

Topping, optional

  • Melted unsalted butter or olive oil
  • Crushed pepper
  • Chopped parsley

Directions:

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, add the warm milk, warm water, dry yeast, and sugar, then stir them together until the yeast has dissolved, add the flour and salt, and continue to mix them until well combined. Using your hands, knead the dough until nice and smooth, then add some oil, and continue to knead until it turns into a smooth dough ball. Transfer the dough to a large mixing bowl, then add more oil, and cover with plastic wrap setting it aside in a warm place for about 1 hour to rise until double in size.

Step 2

After an hour, degas the dough, then remove it from the bowl and smoothen it before dividing it into 6 even pieces. Shape each dough into a smooth ball, then set them aside and cover them with plastic to prevent them from drying. Next, take 1 dough ball, then sprinkle some flour over it, and start to flatten it with a rolling pin until 18cm or 7 inches in diameter and 5mm thick. Place a skillet pan on a stove over medium heat, then add some oil, and add 1 flatbread dough in the hot pan.

Step 3

Once the top starts forming a lot of bubbles, flip it over, then let cook until it turns yellow, once it began swelling, reduce the heat to low, and flip once more to roast both sides evenly. Transfer it to a plate, then cover it with a cloth so it doesn’t dry out, and cook the rest of the bread dough. Brush the pieces of bread with melted butter or olive oil, then sprinkle some crushed red pepper and chopped parsley, serve, and enjoy!
