#1

For the first method, sew two 3 & 1/2″ strips from different fabrics together. Place right sides together and sew at 1/4″. Make sure to sew a nice straight seam so when you press the strips open, you’ll have a nice straight seam line. Now, sub-cut as many 3 & 1/2″ strips from this strip set as you can. So instead of cutting multiple 3 & 1/2″ squares from different fabrics and sewing them together to form the same thing, all you need to do is cut two strips, sew one seam, and cut.

For the second method, sew different fabric strips together in varying widths. Create a strip set as large as you would like. Once your fabric strips are sewn together, take a 6 & 1/2″ square ruler and place it on point, centering it up to the middle of your strip set. Cut out your piece on all sides. Feel free to cut out any shape or template you would like.

#3

For the third method, sew up strips a little bit differently. Stagger your strips going to the right, spacing them out by 2″, and marking each 2″ on your strips. Sew your strips together in this order. Once your strips are sewn together, clean out the edges on the left to make a nice clean edge. Grab a long quilting ruler and find the 45-degree line. Place that line on the bottom of your strip set, lining it up with the edge of the fabric, then trip the left side of the strip set. Before cutting, make sure to flip your piece or make sure you’re cutting away from yourself. Now cut as many of these pieces from the fabric as you can, continuing to line up the 3″ mark to the straight edge of your fabric.
