Take 4 of the dark strips, 1 medium, and 1 light strip. Cut them into 2-1/2 inch squares. For the rest of the strips, cut them into 10-inch lengths.
Arrange them into this pattern and sew them together.
Take 1 of the 10-inch piece and line up the edges. Take another one and put it on the other side. Put one square on the corner of these two strips. Sew them with a quarter-inch seam allowance. Repeat it and keep adding till you have 5 rows. Once done, finger press all the seams going away from the middle.
Do the same process with the same patterns on the other side of the square block. Sew the excess fabrics before you proceed on each layer. Once done, iron it flat.
Trim off the edges. It should be 12 inches wide. So if you only have a 6-inch ruler, just align the edge in the middle.
Sew the border on each side of your patchwork. Finger press it down and cut off the excess by lining up your ruler on the diagonal ends. Next, sew the borders on the pointed edges.
