Grow A Ton Of Ginger With Store-Bought Ginger Roots!

A lot of ingredients especially produce are becoming expensive these past few weeks and to ease your budget and expenses, you might want to consider planting and growing your own food instead. This tutorial by Texas Garden Doc on YouTube will show you step by step tutorial on how to grow a ton of ginger using store-bought ginger roots and get more than your money’s worth.

Materials:

• A large piece of ginger
• Pot
• Soil
• Knife

Directions:

Step 1

First off, pick your ginger. Choose a larger piece with a few bumps or eyes on it, the more eyes it has, the better. It should also be firm, not soft or mushy. After choosing your ginger, simply place it on the kitchen counter where it gets enough air and light, then let it sit for about 3 to 5 weeks or until you see leaves beginning to sprout on each eye or bumps of the ginger. To speed this process up, you can place the ginger inside a paper bag, then throw some onion and a few pieces of garlic inside, and let it sit until the ginger starts producing leaves.

Step 2

Once the ginger is ready, cut it into several pieces to separate the leaves from each other making sure to include a small piece of ginger at the bottom of each sprout. Prepare a pot with soil, then dug a bit, and place the ginger on that area. Place the other ginger making sure to space them about an inch apart from each other, then bury the ginger itself nicely with only the sprouting leaves exposed. Once they’ve grown about 6 to 12 inches high, transfer them to the ground, top them with compost, and water regularly. Use some fertilizers as well and harvest when ready.
