Ingredients:

  • Canola oil
  • Crispy bacon bits

Dough

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp dry active yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 whole egg

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 5 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp whole milk

Directions:

Step 1

Slightly warm your milk in the microwave (but not too hot), then add in the sugar and dry active yeast. Give it a few stirs and let it sit for about 20 minutes just until it gets all nice and bubbly, that’s how you know that the yeast is active. Pour in the yeast mixture to the bowl of a standing mixture, then add melted butter and whole egg, and turn the mixer on low speed. Let it mix for 2-3 minutes or until fully combined. Gradually add in the all-purpose flour in batches, and once all of the flour is added, turn the mixer to medium speed and allow the dough to knead for about 5-6 minutes until silky smooth.

Step 2

Flour the surface of your work area, then transfer the dough mixture and roll it to a thickness of about 1/8 inch, but it can be thicker or thinner depending on your preference. Grab whatever round cutter you have available and cut the dough, then use a smaller round cutter to make a hole at the center of the doughs. Next, cover it with a cloth, and let it proof until it doubles in size, this may take about an hour depending on your kitchen’s temperature. While you’re letting the dough rise, prepare the glaze.

Step 3

Simply combine the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and whole milk in a bowl, then whisk them together until silky smooth. Set it aside until you’re ready to glaze the donuts. Once your dough is done proofing, fill your pot halfway with some canola oil, bring it up to about 350°F, then start frying up all the donuts. Flip them and cook each side for at least 2-3 minutes or until they’re golden brown, then let it rest on top of a cooling rack or paper towel to drain off the excess oil. Let it cool slightly for around 5 minutes before glazing. Once the donuts are ready, glaze all of them in the maple mixture and top it with crispy bacon bits right away, let them sit for 20 minutes to allow the glaze to be fully set.
