Do you still remember your childhood days, back when your mom used to make you this tasty meal or when you used to have them in the school cafeteria? Those were the good old days! I remember eating sloppy joes heartily whenever my mother makes this for me and my siblings, we would even fight over the last piece, but would end up sharing it. Now that I’m all grown up, I wanted to try making them, then let my mother taste and see if it passes her standard or if my cooking even comes close. I’m glad that YouTuber Catherine’s Plates made a recipe about this which made things easier for me!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 large White onion
  • Green bell pepper
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Mustard
  • Butter

Directions:

Step 1

Place and heat your pan on a stove over medium-high heat. Drizzle some oil and spread evenly onto the bottom of the pan, add the ground beef and break them. Dice the green bell pepper and white onion, then toss them onto the pan as well. Mix and brown the beef, then season it with salt, pepper, and garlic powder according to taste. Mix it until it is well combined.

Step 2

Add about half a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce or according to your taste. Drizzle with some mustard, then add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 1 cup of ketchup. Add about 1/4 cup of water onto the ketchup cup just to get the leftovers in there and add it onto the beef mixture. Mix it until fully combined and let it simmer. Once the beef is done cooking, set it aside and let it rest for a bit while preparing the buns.

Step 3

Slice open each bun in half, then lightly spread some butter on each of them. Place the buttered side of the bun onto the pan and grill them until they’re lightly toasted. Scoop some beef mixture and place them onto a bun, top it with the other half of the bun. Serve and pair it with tater tots if you like.
