Add 1/2 cup of warm milk, 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of yeast, and 1 egg into a bowl. Whisk until well combined.
Add 2 cups of bread flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the mixture. Fold until it forms a dough, then roughly knead it into a lump with your hand.
Cover the dough with a cling wrap, cloth, or chopping board and let it ferment at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Add the room-temperature unsalted butter to the dough and knead for about 7 minutes. It will be sticky, but just keep kneading until it becomes smooth. Cover it with a cling wrap and let it ferment again in a warm place until it doubles in size for about 1 hour.
Press the dough flat and divide it into 10. Form each into a ball then cover again with a wrap. Let it ferment for 20 minutes.
Get one of the balls and place it on your work surface, smooth side down. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin into a rectangular shape.
Stretch the end of the dough with your fingertips then roll from the top. Stretch it lightly. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Do the same with the remaining balls. Make sure to put some space between the dough. Cover with cling wrap and ferment until it becomes 1.5 times larger for about 1 hour.
In a bowl, combine 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of water.
Apply the egg mixture to the dough for a pretty burnt color.
Bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for about 17 to 20 minutes.
