Start by preheating your oven to 350F, then spraying a 9 x 13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Set it aside.
In a medium mixing bowl, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Whisk until well combined.
In a large mixing bowl, add the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Beat using an electric hand mixer for about 2 minutes.
Whisk in the eggs one at a time until combined. Once done, mix in the vanilla.
Slowly add 1/3 of the dry mixture into the wet mixture and beat to combine. Pour in 1/2 of the milk and mix until well combined. Add another 1/3 of dry ingredients, beat well, then mix in the rest of the milk. Lastly, mix the remaining dry ingredients.
Add the apple sauce and mix on low speed using the hand mixer. Fold in the walnuts, then transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Place inside the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the cake is golden, pulls away from the sides of the baking dish, and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Once done baking, let it cool completely, then dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar. Slice and serve.
