This mid-century modern dresser makeover video tutorial by Joanna Spicer on YouTube is one of the most inspiring DIY ideas I have seen in ages. Joanna had purchased a very plain raw wood dresser from IKEA and she wasn’t happy with it at all. Seeing the good in everything, Joanna realized the wood was perfectly sanded, so the poor dresser was the perfect candidate for a makeover. The dresser was so basic it really was like a blank canvas that could easily lend itself to any style. Only a few materials are required for this project and the entire dresser makeover will only take an afternoon to complete.

Materials:

  • Varathane (that is stain plus polyurethane)
  • A sanding block (to sand the dresser in between coats)
  • White paint
  • A roller
  • A paint tray
  • Brass mid-century modern looking pulls (for the drawers)

Directions:

In this mid-century dresser makeover video tutorial, you will follow Joanna step by step as she turns this plain IKEA dresser into a work of art. You start by removing the dresser drawers and using your all in one polyurethane stain to cover the dresser frame. Then you will paint the drawer fronts with two coats of white paint using a roller.

Then, you will add the beautiful mid-century style hardware. This DIY mid-century makeover is that easy. In one afternoon you can take a plain piece of furniture and turn it into a show-stopping masterpiece.
