There are only a few days left before summer ends. Why not make this beach ball quilt by Missouri Star to remember the fun things you did this season? It’s a playful and colorful pattern that I am sure you are going to love. Each beach ball does not go in the same direction, making the pattern more interesting!

This quilt project is not as hard as you think. It starts with a 3-unit strip that is cut into squares. After that, the blocks are snowballed twice in four corners. Once the blocks and sashings are sewn, small blocks are formed between beach ball blocks. It’s easy to make, I promise!
I think this quilt is also perfect for Christmas – change the colors to green and red and the beach balls will look like Christmas balls.
Sew three different jelly roll strips together with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press it flat. Cut the unit strip into 6 1/2″ squares. Do this for all your strips.
Snowball the corner of your blocks. From your background fabric, cut 2 1/2″ white squares. For each block, you need four white squares.
Get one block and four white squares. Fold the white squares in half diagonally to make a crease. Place them on each corner of the block. Sew directly on the line from corner to corner. Trim 1/4″ away from the stitch line and press open.
Cut 1 1/2″ squares from the complimentary fabric. Fold them in half diagonally to make a crease. Place a 1 1/2″ square on each corner of the block. Sew directly on the lines. Trim 1/4″ away from the stitch line and press open.
Cut 1 1/2″ strips from your background fabric for the sashing. To make it easier, you can place the blocks on top of the strip in a row and sew, then cut each one. For the cornerstones, you need 1/2″ squares of complimentary fabric. The middle sashing is done the same way except you are going to measure the block, and then place the 1/2″ squares in between.
Make sure the blocks go in different directions.
You will sew 10 rows with 8 blocks each.
