Easy Surprise Pinwheels Quilt Materials

  • 1 roll of 2 1/2″ strips
  • 4 3/4 yards of background
  • 1 1/2 yards of border
  • 5 3/4 yards of backing

How to Make Surprise Pinwheels Quilt

Step 1:

Take a 2 1/2″ strip and cut it into 4 pieces of 4″ strips and 4 pieces of 6″ strips.

Cut 4 pieces of 4″ squares, 8 pieces of 2 1/2″ squares from your background fabric.

Step 2:

Get the four pieces of 4″ strips and four pieces of 6″ strips. Fold the 2 1/2″ squares in half diagonally. Place them on one  end of each strip, right sides together, and sew directly on the line. Make sure all the shorts go one way and the longs go the other. Trim excess. Sew photo below for reference.

Step 3:

Take the four pieces of background squares. Place the 4″ units on top of each square with the color beside the white. Sew them together and press them open.

Step 4:

Place the 6″ unit on the side of the block with the white triangle beside the color of the 4″ unit. Sew them together. Repeat with the other blocks.

Step 5:

Arrange the blocks just like in the photo below and sew them together like a four-patch.
