We all know that Jenny Doan loves star patterns, that’s why the Missouri Star has a collection of them. They are all beautiful and fun to make. If you are also fond of the star quilt designs, then you should add this studio star quilt to your list. It is a beautiful and easy block. The only hard step is making the corner tips, but do not worry. With the step-by-step instructions below, you can finish it with ease.

This studio star quilt is also called sister’s choice and father’s choice. Unlike other star patterns, only the corners have pointed tips, and the centerpieces are squares, making this pattern very interesting. It is a gorgeous block and definitely worth making. Pick two contrasting fabrics and lay them on top of each other. Cut 1 piece of 2 1/2″ square and 4 pieces of 4 1/2″ strips.
Sew each of the remaining strips onto a 2 1/2″ white strip. Do not open yet.
From the remaining white strips, cut 2 1/2″ squares. You will need 8 of the 2 1/2″ white squares for each block.
Stack the two units from step 2. Cut 8 pieces of 2 1/2″ units and press them open.
Take one 4 1/2″ strips and one of the contrasting units. Sew them together. Repeat 3 more times using the same fabric. Make sure they are all the same. Press them open.
Take 8 pieces of 2 1/2″ squares and press them in half diagonally to make a crease. Place two on the corners of the units just like in the photo below. Sew directly on the lines. Trim excess and press open.
Arrange the pieces just like in the photo below. Sew them in rows first. Once done, sew the rows together to make the block.
