This starlight quilt pattern is honestly one of the most beautiful patterns I have ever seen. I was speechless when I first saw this design from Missouri Star’s YouTube account and knew I had to add this to my project list. Jenny Doan instantly fell in love with Fran Gulick of Cotton and Joy’s pattern when it first came out and asked if she could make a video tutorial for this pattern, so here it is.

This pattern is not as complex as it looks. Each star block is only made from half-square triangles, squares, and rectangles. You can finish one block easily and quickly. I am sure you’ll have fun with this project just as much as Jenny Doan did. Watch the video below for full instructions.

Easy Starlight Quilt Pattern Materials

  • 1 pack of 10″ squares
  • 1 3/4 yards of background fabric (includes inner border)
  • 1 yard of outer border
  • 3/4 yard of binding
  • 3 3/4 yards of backing

Note: The finished block measures 8″ unfinished and 7 1/2″ finished

How to Make Starlight Quilt Pattern

Step 1:

From your background fabric, cut 3 1/2″ squares and 3″ squares.

Do the same for your layer cake.

Step 2:

Take two pieces of 3 1/2″ printed squares and pair them with two pieces of 3 1/2″ background squares. Place them right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Sew 1/4″ away on both sides of the line. Cut directly on the line. Square into 3″ squares, then press toward the dark side. You should have four pieces of half-square triangles.

Step 3:

Cut a 3″ by 5 1/2″ rectangle from your printed square.

Step 4:

Arrange the HSTs, squares, and one rectangle in a block just like in the photo below. Sew them in rows first. Once done, sew the rows together to make the block. You need four of this block.

Step 5:

Arrange the four blocks just like a four-patch. See the photo below for reference. It should form a star.

You need 9 stars for the quilt. Add the inner border and outer border.
