I always make this every Sunday lunch, and it’s a top choice whenever I need something comforting for the family. And even though this recipe has big servings, it disappears within minutes – it’s just that good. Ingredients:

  • 10 oz white bread, thickly sliced
  • 6 oz fig preserves
  • 1 cup dried cranberries, chopped
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups half & half
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

Step 1

Cut 1 loaf of French bread into thick slices, then spread fig preserves over each slice of bread. Next, grease the slow cooker with some cooking spray, then lay the slices of bread. Add some chopped dried cranberries, then add another layer of bread slices, then cranberries. Continue layering until you finished adding them all.

Step 2

Crack four eggs in a mixing bowl, whisk, and set aside. In a pot, add 2 cups milk, 2 cups half & half, 1/2 cup caster sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Mix well and warm the mixture over low heat until bubbles start to break the surface. Once done, gradually whisk the milk mixture into the whisked eggs, then pour over the bread. Leave for five minutes, then cover and set the slow cooker to low. Cook for four hours. After cooking, let it set for five minutes before serving.
