Are you looking for easy and beginner-friendly patterns to sew? I got you covered! This simple quilt using 5-inch squares and 1-inch strips by my sewing room is perfect for beginners like you. You can also use your fabric scraps for this project, so take them out if you have them. It’s super fun and quick to make! Read on or watch the video below for full instructions. Happy sewing!
Get one piece of 5-inch squares and mark 3 1/2 inches from the left bottom corner to the right. Next, measure 3 1/2 inches from that corner to the top. Connect the marks into a line, then cut it out. You’ll have one triangle and one diamond-shaped fabric.
Get a 1-inch strip. Make sure the color of the strip contrasts with the 5″ square. Sew on the top of the diamond-shaped fabric with a quarter-of-an-inch seam allowance. Once done, press it then trim off the excess from the strip.
Sew the triangle on the other side of the 1-inch strip with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Trim off excess. Press it flat with an iron. Your block should now measure 5″. Repeat to make 3 more blocks.
Assemble the four blocks into a four-patch. The 1-inch strips should form a diamond in the center. Sew them by 2s first, then sew the two rows together. Press them flat with an iron.
You need 5 of these blocks across, then 5 down. Sew them in rows first, then sew them together. Add border and backing and you are done!
