Make yourself busy with this project today and show us the results!

Materials:

  • Alphabet panel quilt fabric
  • Background fabric
  • Filler fabric
  • Hexagon ruler or template
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Needle and thread
  • Marking pen
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Get a hexagon ruler or create one on paper, then place the template or rule on top of the panel making sure that the picture fits and is centered, and then trace the hexagon. After tracing the shape onto each panel, start cutting them out, then make similar cuts on your filler fabric, and set them aside in piles of two. Draw another hexagon pattern on paper, then draw lines from each side intersecting at the center to create triangles, and cut the triangle shape out or use a small triangle ruler if you have one.

Step 2

Cut strips from your background fabric, then trace the triangles, cut out about 79 little pieces, and trim the bottom corners at an angle. Lay 1 piece of hexagon alphabet, then lay triangles at the top and bottom with their right sides facing and bottom edges matching, and sew together with a ¼” seam allowance. Repeat this with the rest of the hexagon pieces, then once done, assemble 4 alphabet pieces on each row, and fill the empty spaces with your filler diamond pieces. Sew the pieces together, then press them open every now and then, finish the background of your quilt and you’re done. Watch the full video tutorial for more details.
