Making this recipe is super easy, and it only uses simple ingredients. I never knew why I never thought of adding meat before. It surely makes a big difference to the flavor. It is perfect for holidays, gatherings, or just for dinner at home. There are tons of dishes that go well with scalloped potatoes. Preheat the oven to 350F.
Make the white sauce. In a pan, add the butter and let it melt. Once melted, add the chopped onion. Before it gets soft add the garlic. Saute for a few seconds. Turn the heat down a little bit.
Add the flour and mix well. Cook for a minute.
Gradually pour the milk, mixing after every addition. Just before it thickens, add the cheese. Mix until a little bit melted. Turn off the heat and set aside.
Spray the baking pan with non-stick spray. Thinly chop the potatoes.
Add a layer of sliced potatoes on the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle a little bit of garlic salt and pepper, then add half of the chopped ham. Pour half of the sauce on top. Repeat the layers one more time. Top it with a little bit of paprika.
Cover it with foil and bake for 1 hour covered. After an hour, remove the foil and continue baking for 20 minutes. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
