The block is incredibly easy to make. All you need to do is sew two squares together, then keep sewing strips on the sides until you have a square. The last thing you need to do is sew two pieces of 2 1/2″ squares on two corners, and you have the final block. How easy is that? To make the process easier, you can chain-piece them instead of sewing the blocks one by one.

Choose three strips of different colors – A, B, C. Cut a 2 1/2″ square from strip A for the center, and a 2 1/2″ square from your background fabric. Sew them together with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press it open.
Get the strip A again and sew it on the unit. Cut the excess to make a block and press it open.
From the other two strips, choose which one will be the star. Set it aside. Take the other strip and sew to the block. The center square should always be on the top of the strip when you sew them together. Cut the excess and press open.
Take the star strip and do the same process with step 3. You need four of these blocks.
Get 2 1/2″ background squares and fold them in half diagonally. Place them on top of one block just like in the photo below and sew directly on the line. Repeat for the other blocks.
Arrange the four blocks just like a four patch.
