We all have used jar lids that we can’t put to good use anymore. However, as opposed to it being trash, you can repurpose and turn it into adorable home décor. These clever recycling ideas are by the amazing Evrim Taşer Yılmaz via YouTube. It is not just easy to make or not time-consuming but also uses a few materials which you can find at the nearest store.

Materials:

  • Glue Gun
  • Glue Sticks
  • A pair of scissors
  • Cutter
  • Jute Fabric
  • Jute Twine
  • Lace ribbon, 1 inch wide
  • Thin red ribbon
  • White felt fabric
  • Wooden Bead
  • Embellishments
  • Jar lids
  • Large Styrofoam ball
  • Masking tape
  • White acrylic paint
  • Glossy paint
  • Sponge
  • Small paintbrush

Directions:

Candle Coaster

Place the lid on a jute fabric and cut out the same pattern leaving about a half-inch seam allowance. Attach the jute fabric on top of the lid and seal the edges at the back with hot glue. Do this with the other 2 jar lids. Attach the 3 covered jar lids on each other’s sides then trace it in white felt fabric. Cut the pattern and attach it to the uncovered side of the lid with hot glue. Wrap around the sides with jute twines, then decorate it with small pine cones or other embellishments.

Candle Holder

Cut a large Styrofoam ball in half and set it aside. Cut the middle part of a Nutella jar lid, then attach the bottom part to the top of the other lid with hot glue. Wrap the sides with masking tape and attach the inside of one side of the lid with jute fabric. Place and trace the diameter on the felt fabric, cut it out and cover with jute fabric. Then, insert the piece in the covered lid and hot glue a jute string inside, place the lid on one half of the Styrofoam ball, trace the lid then cut a bit. Attach the lid and press down, wrap a jute string at the top edge of the lid and down, stopping only about an inch before reaching the bottom. Trace the lid on the felt and cut it out, attach to the jute fabric, then cover the bottom of the Styrofoam ball with hot glue, cut the excess then continue wrapping the jute string down. Insert wooden beads on a jute string and wrap them around the neck of the candle holder.

Hanging Ornament

Loop a jute string and knot the end, then attach it to the inner side of the jar lid and insert a bead at the top. Attach the other lid, then wrap the sides with masking tape, cut the excess and cover the loop string with plastic. Paint it with white using a sponge, then paint it with a glossy finish using a brush. Wrap a wide lace ribbon around the side, then attach the bead back permanently with hot glue. Decorate it with embellishments in the middle, then add a small red ribbon in between the bead and the top of the lid.
