They are very easy to make and don’t require hand sewing. Learn how to sew these quick and easy hot pads without binding by SewVeryEasy on Youtube. Watch the video below for detailed instructions.

  • 6 pieces of 8″ 100% cotton fabric squares (2 pieces of printed and 4 pieces of solid color)
  • cotton accessories
  • 1 piece of 8″ special batting square (it has batting on two sides and aluminum foil in the center)
  • 100% cotton thread
  • 4″ string or ribbon

If you are unsure if the fabrics and accessories you’ll be using can withstand heat, test them with an iron first.

Step 1:

Separate 2 pieces of fabric solid color squares. For the remaining squares, fold them in half diagonally, then press them flat with an iron.

Step 2:

Place the special batting in-between 2 pieces of fabric solid color squares, so that the wrong sides are touching the batting. Pin the layers together.

Step 3:

Stitch the layers together from corner to corner diagonally. This will hold the quilt batting together.  After that, do a scant 1/8″ just to hold the layers together.

Step 4:

Take the triangles that you folded and pressed in half earlier. Each corner of the pad is going to match the corners of the triangles. Take one of the printed triangles, and match the corner. The raw side should be on the edge and the folded side on the inside. Next, place one solid-colored triangle on the next corner on top of the first one. Do the same for the next one using a printed triangle. For the last one, fold the first triangle that you put down in half and place it in the corner. Put the first one back.

Step 5:

Fold the hanging loop in half, lift one corner and place it. The loop should be inside and the cut edges are outside. Sew all the way around with a minimum of a quarter-inch seam allowance. Snip off the corners but do not go into your threads. Turn it right side out.
