Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F, then butter a rimmed baking sheet.
Get a large skillet and place it over medium/high heat. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil and put 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the sliced onions and saute for 5 minutes or until softened. Stir it occasionally. Next, sprinkle sugar and sautee for 5 more minutes until caramelized and golden. Once done, transfer to a plate.
Using the same pan, pour 2 1/2 cups of water, then scrape the pan to deglaze. Add the au jus seasoning and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer (follow the package instructions). Add more water if needed.
Cut the Hawaiian buns in half. Place the bottom half on the buttered baking sheet then spread mayo on them. Place the folded slices of beef evenly over the rolls. Then put the caramelized onions over the sliders. Top the beef with sliced provolone.
Place the top half of the buns and brush with 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Immediately sprinkle with sesame seeds and place in the oven. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees F for 1215 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the top is golden brown.
Using a serrated knife, separate into individual sliders. Serve with the warm au jus dip. Enjoy!
