For the best results, use homemade pie crust for this recipe. It’s very easy to make and tastes better than store-bought crusts. To make the filling, you’ll only need 6 simple ingredients: sugar, whipping cream, butter, cornstarch, salt, and vanilla extract. The coconut extract is optional, but it does add a nice flavor to the pie. And, to top it all off, sprinkle it with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Your pie won’t be complete without it!

How to Make Sugar Cream Pie At Home

Step 1:

Make the pie crust. Whisk flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl, then cut in the butter and shortening until the mixture becomes large crumbs.

Step 2:

Stir in the water until a dough forms, then gently knead to incorporate all dry ingredients.

Step 3:

Divide the dough into two balls (equal in size) and flatten into a disk. Wrap each one with plastic wrap and chill for about 1 to 3 hours.

Step 4:

Once they are ready, roll one pie dough out and place into a greased 9-inch deep glass pie plate. Put some pie weight on top of the crust and bake in a 400F preheated oven for about 30 to 35 minutes, removing the weight halfway through. Once done, set it aside while you prepare the filling.

Step 5:

Make the filling. Whisk sugar, cornstarch, and salt, in a large pot, then gently pour in the heavy whipping cream. Turn the heat to medium, and stir constantly until all sugar is dissolved.

Step 6:

Continuously stir until it begins to thicken, then reduce the heat to prevent it from simmering or boiling.
