Instructions
Step 1:
For the first set, take 2 pieces of colored strips and 1 piece of white strip. Place the background strip on the center of the two pieces and sew them with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Iron the seams toward the edges. For the second set, take 2 pieces of white strips and 1 piece of colored strip. Place the colored one in the center of the background strips. Sew with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Iron the seams toward the center.
Step 2:
Get one from each set and place them on top of each other. Trim off the selvage edge, then cut into 2 1/2 units. You will need two outer pieces and one inner piece for one block.
Step 3:
Get two units from the two-colored strips and one unit from the one-colored strips. Rotate one of the two-colored strips, and place the one-colored strip in the center. Sew them together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance to make a 9-patch. Press it flat. It should be 6 1/2″.

Step 4:
Cut 6 1/2″ squares from your background fabric and get two pieces. Place them on top of each other. Cut in half diagonally from corner to corner to make 4 triangles.
Step 5:
Take the four triangles and fold them in half to find the center. Do the same with your nine-patch. Place the triangles on the sides of the block. Make sure they are centered. Sew with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. Press it flat.

Step 6:
Trim into a square block. You need 7 blocks across and 8 blocks down for a total of 56.
