This modern one color quilt is an interesting pattern that I recently discovered from the Fat Quarter Shop. I usually prefer classic patterns but this one is an exception. The steps are very easy to follow and not complicated at all. Watch the video below for full instructions.

Get fabric A and cut:
28 pieces of 5 1/2″ x WOF strips, then sub-cut to 48 pieces of 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles and 96 pieces of 5 1/2″ squares.
5 pieces of 2″ x WOF strips, then sub-cut to 96 pieces of 2″ squares.
Get fabric B and cut:
16 pieces of 5 1/2″ x WOF strips, then sub-cut to 96 pieces of 5 1/2″ squares.
24 pieces of 2″ x WOF strips then sub-cut to 96 pieces of 2″ x 7″ rectangles.
For the binding, you need 7 pieces of 2 1/2″ x WOF strips.
Get one 2″ fabric A square and sew it on the end of one 2″ x 7″ fabric B rectangle to make unit A. Press the seam towards the darker fabric. Repeat until you have 96 pieces of unit A.
Get one 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ fabric A rectangle and two 5 1/2″ fabric B squares. Place one square on top of the rectangle, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line on the square, then sew on the line. Trim off excess fabric 1/4″ away from the seam. Press towards the darker fabric.
Get the other square and place it on the other end of the unit and draw a diagonal line again in the same direction as the first one. Sew on the marked line, then trim the excess fabric 1/4″ away from the seam. This will be unit B. Press toward the darker fabric. Repeat to make 48 pieces of unit B.
Take two unit A and one unit B. Sew the two pieces of unit A onto the sides of unit B in opposite directions. Make sure that the squares on the ends are away from the ends of the diagonal line in the center. Press open.
Place a 5 1/2″ fabric square A on two corners of the block (the two small squares on the block should be showing). Draw a diagonal line across each square, then sew on the drawn line. Trim off excess fabric 1/4″ away from the seams. Press open and make 48 more blocks.
Lay the blocks into 8 rows of 6 blocks. Sew each row, then press the seams to the left in the odd-numbered rows and to the right in the even-numbered rows.
Sew the rows together, then press the seams open.
