If you’re a quilting beginner, you might want to check this jelly belly bars quilt from Fat Quarter Shop on Youtube. This project is super easy to make; you might finish it in just one sitting. The quilt pattern also looks super nice, and it’s the kind of quilt you’ll never get tired of doing. Watch the video tutorial below to learn how.
Materials:
- one print jelly roll or thirty-one 2 & 1/2″ x WOF strips
- one solid jolly bar or thirty-one 5″ x 10″ rectangles
- 5/8 yard binding
- 3 & 5/8 yards backing
- (click here for the free pattern)
Cut each 2 & 1/2″ x WOF strip into:
- 2 – 2 & 1/2″ x 10″ rectangles – 62 total (fabric A)
- 2 – 2 & 1/2″ x 9″ rectangles 62 total (fabric B)
- 31 – 5″ x 10″ rectangles (fabric C)
Cut binding fabric into:
- 7 – 2 & 1/2″ x WOF strips (fabric D)
Directions:
Step 1
Lay down one fabric A on top, one fabric C in the middle, and another fabric A at the bottom. Stitch them with a 1/4″ seam allowance, then press towards your fabric A rectangles. Next, take two fabric B rectangles and attach them on both sides. Stitch them, then press. This will give you your jelly belly bars block. Make 31 pieces of these.

Step 2
Take your jelly belly bar blocks and (for the lap size) sub-cut six of them down. Now, for the lap size, assemble four full blocks into four rows, then do three rows with three full blocks and two trimmed blocks. Piece these together and your quilt is done.
