As much as I love doing traditional quilt patterns, my favorite ones are actually the optical illusion ones. One of my favorite patterns is this impossible spiral quilt block from Tulip Square on YouTube. It might seem “impossible” for you to make, but this one is so easy to make beginners will surely love it!

Darkest Color:

  • cut 1 – 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
  • cut 2 – 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″

Directions:

Step 1

To start, cut all the fabric requirements accordingly and set them aside. Next, take your white square and your darkest square and sew them together. Once done, sew the dark rectangle to the left side, and then the medium dark rectangle to the right side. After this, sew larger medium-dark rectangles on both the top and bottom of that unit. Press these towards the outside and set aside. Next, grab a medium-light strip and medium-dark rectangle, then sew a diagonal line. Set it aside. Now, take the two palest colored strips and sew white squares on each end diagonally.

Step 2

Once done, trim off the outer triangles from all three pieces, leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press open afterward. Now, take the shortest piece, sew it on the left side of the unit, then sew the next medium light strip on the opposite side. After this, sew the last medium-light color to the top. Next, grab the second shortest strip unit and sew it at the bottom with the white pointing out, then sew the final piece to the left side with the white pointing out as well.

Since I lover experiments, I’ve alwaysnloved to create, paint, as well as cook and style food. I feel in love with DIY as soon as I discovered it and could not have been more excited when I learned I could share projects with people around the world. Taking photos is a passion of mine, as is design and painting with oils. I love holidays and celebrations, crafting cute little gifts and serving up at least one new recipe I am excited about.
