Here’s an easy and beginner-friendly sewing project that you can try! If you have been thinking of repurposing your old jeans but don’t know how to, then read this simple tutorial and watch the video below as well to learn how. All thanks to MEE YA who brought this incredibly clever idea to YouTube.
Step 1
Remove the back pockets of the pants neatly and remove the hems of the pants as well. Then, cut the inner side of the leg up to the crotch area, pivot then cut across, do the other leg as well. Fold it in half lengthwise with right sides facing each other, then draw a curve on the fold for the collar with a 10 x 10cm (3.9 x 3.9 inches) size, 4 x 4cm (1.5 x 1.5 inches) for the strap, and 28cm (11 inches) for the armhole, then cut out the pattern accordingly. For the apron’s body, it should be 40cm (15.7 inches) long, straighten and trim the sides and the bottom. Fold the now finished cut out of the fabric in half lengthwise, then place it on top of the other fabric which should also be folded in half, trace out the pattern, and cut accordingly.

Step 2
Use an overlock to sew all over the fabric pieces. Cut out 2 pieces of a 28 x 5cm (11 x 2 inch) fabric, sew it on each side of the front fabric piece. For the fabric piece at the back, cut out 2 pieces of a 12.7 x 5cm (5×2 inch) fabric and fold it in half lengthwise, then sew the short sides, make notches on the corner then turn it right side out. Place it on the side of the body at the topmost corner, match the open side with the seam edge of the body, sew them together. Once done, sew the two pieces of fabric, as well as the edges of the small fabrics on each side of the apron. Cut the bottom of the removed pockets and reattach it onto the apron, tuck the edges inward all over the apron for the finishing touches, then sew them in place. Carefully remove the belt area of the pants, then use it as the extension of the apron strap. Lastly, add buttons at the front straps and at the sides of the apron.
