With a few basic sewing tools and some simple techniques, you can tailor your pants at home to suit your body perfectly. This guide will walk you through the process step-by-step, empowering you to make precise adjustments that will have your pants looking and feeling custom-made.
Make sure the pants are inside out then lay it on top of another jeans that fits you well. Line in the crotch area, then mark across the hem using a fabric marker.
If you don’t have the correct length, put on the pants and roll up the hem until you’re satisfied with the length. Once satisfied, pin them to the bottom of the fold, then take off the trousers, and turn them inside out. Using the pin as your guide, mark a line across the width of the trousers. Then, create a new line, 2″ below the the line you just drew.
Use a thread ripper to undo the original hem if you don’t have 2″ of fabric. After this, cut out all the extra fabric below this line. Next, draw another line, 2″ above the original line you made. Fold the fabric up to that top line, then press the end of the hem. After this, fold the fabric in half under itself, leaving you with a 1″ hem. Keep folding around the entire trouser leg, pinning the fabric as you go.
Double thread the needle then make a knot. Start sewing, keeping your stitches an eighth of an inch from the top of the hem. Go all the way around, keeping the stitches neat. Make a knot once you reach the end, then repeat the process on the other side. Once done, iron and press the hem flat to make sure it’s sitting nicely and clean.
