What I love about sewing is that you can make almost anything out of fabrics. Just like this easy sewing project by SewVeryEasy on YouTube! These reversible hanging pockets are good storage for small stuff such as keys. Plus it is so simple to make that even beginners can try it.

Materials:

  • 2 fabric with a high contrast of colors
  • Thread to match the fabrics
  • Fusible interfacing fabric
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Rotary fabric cutter
  • Scissors

Directions:

Step 1

Cut both of your fabrics into 16½ inches squares, then cut them in half diagonally going from corner to corner, and set them aside. Then, cut the interfacing fabric a half-inch smaller so it becomes 16 inches square, then cut it diagonally from corner to corner as well. Trim a little piece off from all three corners of the interfacing fabric. Stack 2 pieces of contrasting triangular fabrics with their right sides facing together, then fuse one interfacing on top of the stacked fabrics, match the squared sides and you’ll have a seam allowance exposed at the bottom/ longer cut of the triangle.

Step 2

Sew all the way around with a ¼ inch seam allowance, but leave an opening for turning the fabric later. Once done sewing, snip off the extra pointed corners of all 3 sides, but make sure to avoid the thread where it was stitched. Tuck the seams in and press with an iron, then turn the fabric to its right side out, and lightly press again. From the upper corner of the triangle, leave a little room down, then mark a 2½ inches line for the buttonhole, cut along the marked line, and sew both sides with a zigzag stitch. Fold both flaps on the side towards the center evenly, you’ll end up with 3 layers in the middle. Whipstitch all three layers close.
