Materials:

  • 11.8 by 19.7″ interfacing
  • 11.8 by 19.7″ lining
  • Fabric scraps
  • Scissors
  • Marking pen or pencil
  • Ruler
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine
  • Pins and clips

Directions:

Step 1

Lay the fabric scraps on top of the glue side of the interfacing and arrange them however you want, make sure there is no visible white space left, then press and fuse the fabric scraps to the interfacing fabric. Flip the piece over, then give it a nice press at the back as well, and trim off the excess fabric around the sides. Flip it over again so that the right side (or fabric scraps side) is facing up, then draw diagonal lines that are about 0.4″ apart from each other starting from the lower-left corner of the fabric until you reach the upper-right corner. Next, draw diagonal lines the opposite way to create a small criss-cross pattern, then sew right along those lines. Lay the fabric right side down, then fold the short edge by 0.8″, and press nicely, repeat this process to the lining fabric. Fold each piece in half with their right sides facing, then lay them together matching their seams nicely, and then clip their edges together. Press the folded edges with your hands, then box the folded corners by 1.6″ tall and 2″ wide, and draw a 0.4″ seam allowance on both sides.

Step 2

Sew them together by the 0.4″ seam allowance, then remove the clips, and cut off the box on the lower corner. Spread the bottom of the fabric open and pull it sideways until the seams are matching, then pin it in place, and repeat the process to the lining fabric. Sew their lower sides with a ¼-inch seam allowance, then turn the bag right side out, and poke the corners nicely. Pull the opening of the bag sideways to match the seams and until it’s nice and flat, clip the opening together, then measure 1.6″ from each side, and set it aside. Cut 2 pieces of 0.8 by 11.8 inches handle, then mark a line about 0.8″ from the edge. Open the bag the right way, then insert each end of the handle between the lining and main fabric making sure to match the markings as well, and pin them in place. Topstitch around the opening of the bag sewing the handle in place at the same time.
