Get the old pair of jeans, and fold it in half. Measure 23″ from the bottom and mark it. Make a horizontal line from that point, then cut. Set aside the top part.
Cut the denim on the side seams. Trim off the side seams and the bottom hem.
Place one denim fabric right side down and trim it into a rectangle. Do the same on the other piece.
Place them right sides together and stitch on the top part.
On a big piece of paper, cut a 20″ by 16″ rectangle for the pattern. Place the pattern on the denim with one side just below the seams and trace it. Cut out the rectangle. Make sure not to cut the seam allowance. Press the seams open, then flip it. Topstitch on the seams.
Place the fusible interfacing on the back side of the denim and press with an iron.
Place the lining right side down, then put the polyester sheet followed by the denim fabric(right side up) on top. Sew around the edges.
Fold it in half crosswise and lengthwise to mark the middle points. Fold one of the short sides up to the center point, then mark again the center. Do the same on the other side.
Take the upper part of the jeans and cut an 8″ square on both sides. Press fusible interfacing with the same size on the back of the two 8″ squares. Flip them and place the polyester sheets and linings on top. Sew around the edges. Measure 2″ from all edges. Cut 2 pieces of 9″ strips from the side seams you cut earlier on, and sew on the 2″ mark on the squares. Measure 2″ from both edges of the side seams and stitch. Sew them between the middle and the first mark on the edge – one on the top and one on the bottom.
Sew the sides together to make a rectangular box except for the 1/4 part on the other end. Flip it right side out and sew the zipper. Lastly, bind the edges and sew the label.
