Honestly, I didn’t really know bowl cozies were a thing, but they are so useful. After watching The Crafty Gemini’s tutorial on YouTube on how to sew a bowl cozy, I am inspired to make a couple of them because they have many functional usages. Whether if you’re eating a bowl of hot soup out of a bowl, or cold ice cream, I think this is a great sewing craft to make. It’s a great usage that’s comfortable if you’re using a bowl for anything. Plus, with The Crafty Gemini’s instructions, it’s easy to follow along. I love it’s a reversible bowl cozy too so you’re able to pick out fun patterns, and it’s super kid-friendly.
Note: If you plan on using your bowl cozy in the microwave to reheat soup or something, make sure all of your fabric, batting, and thread are 100% cotton. It’s good to be safe because synthetic fibers can melt at high temperatures.
First, start off by taking your fabric and spray base it to the batting with the adhesive spray. Then, take your fabric pieces and stitch a big “X”. You can use a ruler and a marking tool to mark the diagonal lines or just eyeball it.
Next, continue to watch The Crafty Gemini’s tutorial on YouTube for the full instructions and details on how to stitch the bowl cozy together.
I think this is a great project to sew for your kids too because they can choose their fabrics and have their own personal bowl cozy. This would come in handy because I would always just use a towel or a kitchen glove to grab hot bowls out of the microwave. Plus, this would be super convenient and I can just attach it onto my bowl before throwing it into the microwave.
