Materials:

  • An old toothbrush or your cleaning toothbrush
  • Dawn dish soap
  • Hot water

Directions:

Step 1

First, you have to lift the drain stopper, but it would be easier if you release it from the connecting rods underneath the sink. Go under your sink and squeeze the spring clip to loosen the pivot rod, detach it from the clevis strap, then unscrew it as well. Set them aside, then go back up to the drain stopper, it should be easier to lift now. Pull up the drain stopper and twist until the gasket completely releases from the sink. You might want to put on some gloves and start pulling all of the clogged hair out of the drain.

Step 2

Throw it straight into the trash bin, then grab your cleaning toothbrush, and start scraping up all of the leftover dirt in the drain. Prepare a bowl or container and fill it with hot water, add a few drops of Dawn dish soap and stir it around until foams start to form. Place the dirty drain stopper in the soap and hot water solution, give it a good scrub, rinse with clean water, and air dry. Insert the drain stopper back into the sink making sure to stick it in as straight as possible. Then, reassemble the pivot rod underneath the sink. Test it out and let some water pour over the sink to check whether you’ve assembled them properly and that there is no leaking.
