Next time you decide to throw away your old towels, think twice. You might want to consider repurposing them before you get rid of them permanently, turn those old towels into this DIY bath mat in just a few minutes. Let ItsNEK via YouTube show you how to easily sew this rug together, let your crafty side take over you, and give this project a try! I already made a few of these using old towels as well and they looked very cute, my family loved it and I’m planning to make more in the future. This really saved me a lot of money because I prefer making this project more than a store-bought mat.

Materials:

  • 3 Old bath towels
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Needle
  • Thread

Directions:

Step 1

Cut your bath towels into 5-6 inches wide strips, then stack them together and sew the middle top part together. Starting at the very front towel strip, fold each side evenly toward the center, then fold again lengthwise, make sure that the folded ends match, pin them in place, do this to the other 2 towels underneath as well.

Step 2

Once you reached the end of the strip, simply stitch the other end of the next strip to extend its length, then continue folding and pinning in place. Next, proceed to braid the folded towels together carefully and slowly, then trim the excess thick edges, and sew the ends together. Begin to twirl the braided towels around, then once you’ve reached the end, stitch it securely on the rug itself, then go ahead and sew around the rug to hold its shape securely.
