Materials:

  • 16-inch paper lantern
  • Ribbons
  • Hole puncher
  • Double-sided tape
  • Ruler
  • Piñata stuffers like candy, confetti, or small toys
  • Fringe or regular scissors
  • Iridescent, gold, and silver tissue paper
  • Tape
  • Rope

Directions:

Step 1

Stack the tissue paper together, then measure 3×2 inches, and cut them out nicely. Fringe the pieces by cutting them halfway up vertically, then assemble the lantern according to package instructions, and then cut a rectangular piece of tissue paper making sure it’s a bit larger than the opening at the bottom. Punch 3 holes along 2 sides of the paper for a total of 6 holes, then insert the ribbon through them, and interlace them as you would a shoelace.

Step 2

Put the paper inside the lantern, then pull the ribbons gently down the bottom hole of the lantern, and secure the paper inside with tape. Apply double-sided tape to each paper fringe, then attach them onto the lantern starting at the bottom with the fringe facing up, and once done, remove the wire inside the lantern. Stuff the lantern with confetti, candies, chocolates, or whatever small treats or gifts you want. Tie a rope to hold the piñata, then hang it up at your party, and pull when ready.
