There are so many creative ways to explore how to make a face mask. I came across Amy Lott’s video that was inspired by Dr. Ryan Southworth’s HEPA vacuum bag filter mask tutorial. Amy recreated her version on how to this safe face mask. According to Dr. Ryan Southworth, he believes a HEPA filter is much better than a cotton mask. He says a standard HEPA filter vacuum bag filters 99.97% of airborne particulate matter per OSHA standards. I think these are good facts to keep in mind, however, this has not gone through rigorous testing. Also, it’s always best to do your research first and choose the correct no glass fiber filter. This type of mask is said to be a great design, using for medical personal purposes.
First, print and draw the pattern that can be traced here and cut it out. If you don’t have a printer, you can sketch and eyeball it.
Then, using the pattern, cut out pieces from the vacuum bag. Place the short side of the pattern on the seam. Separate the layers of the vacuum bag to glue the pipe cleaner to serve as a nose bridge.
In conclusion, I think it’s creative and nice to find so many different face mask options that other people are making. There are so many ways to create a face mask to keep safe during COVID-19. I think this would be neat to try out and create because my sister works in the medical field. I would love to see how this mask works and if it’s actually breathable as well. The duck shape mask looks silly but reliable.
