Ingredients:

Dough

  • 2-2 1/3 cups of bread flour, divided
  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) of instant yeast
  • 1½ tsp of sugar
  • ¾ tsp of salt
  • ½ tsp of garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp of olive oil, plus more as needed
  • ¾ cup of warm water, at about 105-115°F or 40-46°C

Garlic butter mixture

  • 4 tbsp of salted butter
  • 3 cloves (about 1½ tbsp) of minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp of minced fresh basil
  • Grated parmesan cheese, optional

Directions:

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F, then line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, stir together a cup of flour with instant yeast, sugar, salt, and garlic powder until well combined. Stir in the olive oil and warm water using a wooden spoon until well combined, then gradually add another cup of flour or more as needed, give them a good stir until the dough forms and becomes elastic and begins to pull away from the sides. Get another large bowl, then grease it with a generous amount of olive oil, and transfer the dough to it rolling the dough ball inside until the entire surface is lightly coated with oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, then place it on top of the oven, and let rise for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size. After 30 minutes, degas the dough, then transfer it to a lightly floured surface, and start shaping it into a log at about 15 inches long before cutting it into 9 even pieces.

Step 2

Roll each piece while slightly pulling until it’s about 8 inches long, then carefully tie it into a knot, and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat this with the rest of the dough, then lightly brush with olive oil if desired. Place the baking sheet with the dough knots on top of the oven, then let them rise for about 5 minutes before baking. After 5 minutes, put them in the preheated oven, then let them bake for about 13 minutes or until they began turning light golden brown. While waiting for the bread to bake, prepare the garlic butter mixture. Simply cook the butter and garlic together in a small saucepan over medium or low heat until melted and fragrant, then remove it from the heat, and stir in the minced basil. Once the bread knots are done baking, brush the garlic butter mixture over each knot, then sprinkle some grated parmesan over them if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
