With just the lid of an old can, tape, lighter, and sharp scissors, you can easily make a spare key. It might not be as durable as the original keys, but it does the job of opening a padlock. Be careful when using this to open the lock, as you don’t want it to bend or snap. If you want to try this at home, be very cautious not to cut yourself. Wear gloves if you need to. Start by holding the top of the original key with pliers, then heat the bottom with a lighter until it has a black coating. Place it somewhere safe to cool it down.
Take a strip of tape and stick it to the key to take a print. Carefully peel it off and you have the exact copy of the key.
Take the lid from a can and lay it on the table. Take the tape with the print and stick it to the lid.
Using a sharp key, cut out the key. Make sure to do it accurately. Be very careful not to cut yourself on any sharp metal. If there are any black left on the original key, clean it off with a piece of paper.
