There are several reasons why the zipper pull comes off. It can be due to a wear-out slider, stress and strain, or poor-quality zipper. But sometimes, the end of the teeth or chain tears off from the material, which causes the zipper slider to slide off the teeth. Watch the video below for the full instructions.

What You Need to Fix a Zipper Pull

  • screwdriver
  • needle
  • thread
  • pliers (optional)

How to Fix a Broken Zip Puller

Step 1:

Open the zipper by separating the teeth or chain.

Step 2:

Put the puller back on by threading one side. Pull it towards the other end.

Step 3:

Thread your needle. What you need to do is make sure that the end of the zipper is fastened down to the back. Just do four loops to anchor it. Sew the end part down on the material so the zipper pull won’t come out again. Next, sew the chain together, so the edge is actually closed.

Step 4:

Take the zipper pull to the other side. Get a screwdriver. Hold the zipper pull firmly with your hands, then insert the screwdriver into the throat of the zipper pull to open it a little bit. See the photo below for reference.

Step 5:

Slide the other side of the teeth or chain. Once inserted, squash the two sides together to make sure the side of the track is sitting inside. Take a screwdriver and press down to close it off. Alternatively, you can use pliers.

Step 6:

Pull the zipper-pull all the way back and zip it close.
