How To Crochet A Baby Octopus

Crochet is a really fun hobby and is effective in passing the time. You can make a lot of products using yarns such as; blankets, sweaters, or socks. But, this crochet project by All From Jade is a cute idea that you can even give as a gift. Materials:
- A pair of scissors
- A yarn needle
- A few stitch markers (or bobby pin, piece of scrap yarn, paper clip)
- Some polyester stuffing
- Crochet thread
- Crochet hook
- Safety eyes
Directions:
Step 1
Hold your yarn tail and make a slip knot, start by wrapping it around 2 fingers to make an “x”, then turn your hands up front, insert your crochet hook under the first loop and pull the second loop underneath. Lift your crochet hook and remove your finger then pull the yarn tail to tie a knot. Pull the yarn over the hook to create a chain and repeat. Insert the hook on the 2nd chain then yarn under, and pull through. Yarn over then pull through both loops, go back to the same chain, yarn under, and pull through the chain, then yarn over and pull through both loops. Do a total of 8 stitches doing the same method, pull the yarn tails to tightly close the opening. Find the last stitch and insert your hook there and make a single crochet stitch, pull to make a large loop, and place your crochet marker to mark the start of the knot.

Step 2
Go back to the same stitch and make another single crochet, repeat that around and you’ll have a total of 16 stitches, once you’ve reached the stitch marker, pull the yarn tails tightly, and make a single crochet stitch around on each. Do this with a total of 5 rounds. Pull the loop then place the eye on the last two yarn rounds or wherever you prefer, as long as it’s on the other side of the stitch marker. Count 3 spaces for the 2nd eye, the place the washers at the back of the eye to secure it. Place 8 stitch markers on every other front loop, then insert the crochet hook on the loop again, use the back loops and make decreases. Insert the crochet hook on the next back loop, yarn under and pull through, on the next back loop without a stitch marker, yarn under, pull through, then yarn over and pull over 3 loops, do that around and make 6 rounds of decreases. Make a slip stitch and leave the loop a bit, cut the excess yarn and pull through.
Step 3
Stuff the head of the octopus with the filling, then close the opening using only the front loops. Then insert the crochet hook from the outside going in, and pull through. Repeat the stitching process, then once you’ve reached the knot, pull the yarn tail to close the opening. Grab a few lines and go underneath with your needle and pull through the head and cut the excess to hide the yarn tail. For the tentacles, pull the crochet hook through the front hook of the first chain, pull through, and yarn over. Insert the crochet hook to the same stitch where the yarn is joined, then yarn over, and pull through the front loop. You’ll end up with three hooks but only yarn over and pull through the first two hooks, repeat this process and remember to only pull through the first 2 loops. Next, insert the hook into the next front loop and make a slip stitch, repeat until you have a total of 8 mini bobble stitches. Remove the crochet markers as you go along. Remove the crochet hook and tie the two yarn tails together, insert the yarn needle back through the head, then cut the excess ends of the yarn tails.
